Watch the video attachment for an example of our schemes of work in action. Scheme of Work Content: Linking with the NC Programme of Study for Science, Year 5 pupils will explore the theme of space. They will look at 2d and 3d shapes, different dynamics and pathways taking inspiration from rockets, weightless astronauts and orbits. Pupils will be taught a phrase of movement based on actions performed by astronauts within zero gravity environments, create rocket shaped freeze frames and develop their own short movement sequences based on the pathways of orbits. These sequences will be improved by the use of choreographic devices.

Scheme of Work Content: Linking with the NC Programme of Study for Science, Year 6 pupils will explore the theme of Keeping Healthy. They will look at the impact exercise can have on the way in which their bodies function through participating in an energetic, and challenging, dance class with a focus on developing fitness. Pupils will be led through a series of warm up and training exercises. They will create their own warm up activities to demonstrate their knowledge about how to keep safe. Pupils will learn a short street dance sequence and then develop their own dances, demonstrating a good level of strength and fitness. These sequences will be improved by the use of choreographic devices.

Scheme of Work Content: Linking with the NC Programme of Study for Science, Year 4 pupils will explore the theme of the Digestive System. They will think about the different body parts and actions associated with eating, through the theme of Sweets. Pupils will be inspired by a professional choreographer’s interpretation of different kinds of sweets, and how they used their properties to inform choices about action and dynamic content. Pupils will be taught an extract from the Gobstoppers Dance in Matthew Bourne’s Nutcracker! They will then take different sweets as inspiration to create their own dances, looking at the properties of the sweets themselves, as well as the eating process involved. These sequences will be improved by the use of choreographic devices.

Pupils will be taught a skeleton dance and develop their own short movement sequences based on the theme. These sequences will be improved by the use of some simple choreographic devices.

They will explore how the different joints in the body move, how to perform isolated movements, and get creative by moving into and out of different shapes. Pupils will be taught a recycling sorting machine dance and develop their own short, contrasting, movement sequences based on the theme. These sequences will be improved by the use of some simple choreographic devices.

Scheme of Work Content: Linking with the Statutory Framework Specific Area: Understanding the World, Reception pupils will focus on the Early Learning Goal of: The Natural World and create a dance based on Bees and Butterflies. They will explore moving with a range of actions, directions and speeds, responding to the way these animals move. They will also use prepositional place language to develop creative responses. Pupils will be taught a short dance sequence based on traveling and balancing, and develop their own duets inspired by the theme. These sequences will be improved by the use of basic choreographic devices and discussed using correct action, dynamic and positional language.
